Pelvic Floor Therapy

A relaxed, strong, healthy pelvic floor is possible.

Now you can achieve this in a calm supportive environment or in the comfort of your own home.

It’s possible you’ve tried medication, Kegels, massage, standard PT, collection of videos of social media, and more with limited success.

You’re still here because they haven’t properly addressed very important parts — your pelvic floor health and regulating your nervous system.

My holistic mind-body approach to pelvic health gets to the root of your symptoms instead of temporarily masking them.

I’m here to support you through this approach.

What happens in Pelvic Floor Therapy?

Sessions can involve education, bladder/bowel habit training, stretches, nervous system education and exercises, body work, activity modifications, functional home programs, strengthening exercises, training in use of assistive tools, trigger point releases, pressure management, core engagement, breathwork, and more. They are individualized to meet your needs. The first session will be about getting a comprehensive overview of your symptoms, concerns, and goals. Then, together, we will make a plan that best suits your needs.

Sometimes, pelvic floor therapy can include internal exams and treatments. This can asses and/or treat things like tone, strength, pain, tissue quality, and coordination. It’s important to know that everything is always optional, adaptable, and moves at your own pace.

More of your questions answered:

  • The first session is about getting a comprehensive overview of your symptoms, concerns, and goals. We will make a plan together that best suits your needs. If doing an in-person visit, there may be a physical assessment. This can but does not have to include direct contact with the pelvic floor. I typically will not do internal treatment on a first visit unless you specifically request it. I do this to ensure your nervous system and body is fully consenting to this process.

  • Internal work allows us to further assess and treat your tone, strength, pain, tissue quality, and coordination. Trigger point release directly on the pelvic floor can be a beneficial part of treatment for pelvic tension. It is also helpful for a therapist to directly palpate the muscles to asses what is truly going on. It involves the therapist applying gentle pressure to muscles as you practice breathing and nervous system regulation techniques. This can also be taught for you to do self release with either your finger, a tool, or partner training for someone to assist you at home. I want to emphasize that this is not a necessary part of treatment. Everything is always optional, adaptable, and moves at your own pace.

  • Yes, you can do all the same treatments on your period including internal work! I will be aware of if there is any increase in pain or discomfort while menstruating. There are also many other options of treatment modalities to choose from, whatever feels best for you that day.

  • Definitely! During a virtual session we can do education, skill building, training on use of tools, nervous system regulation, stretches, exercises, etc.. Virtual is a great way to receive care in the comfort of your own home, without the stress of driving to another appointment or finding child care, and/or if you live in a location with difficult access to a provider. It also allows me to get a better look at your daily environment and how we can incorporate it into your treatment and daily life.

I can also teach you how to do techniques (including internal) on your own, if you choose to do so.

  • Sure can! Another benefit of being out of network, is this autonomy is in your hands. Since we do not get proper education or training on the health of our pelvic floors, getting an expert eye can be beneficial to check your pelvic health. You can come in for prevention of dysfunction down the line or to improve your overall pelvic health.

A lot of us are not breathing optimally or using poor bladder and bowel habits, come learn about yours!

  • Yep, everyone has a pelvic floor!

  • Absolutely, pelvic floor therapy can play a significant role in the pelvic health of trans and non binary individuals. This can involve preparation and post surgical care such as for muscles, fascia, blood flow, ect, as well as scar management, nervous system regulation, and nerve re-education. We can also work on body (re)connection, new roles and routines, support through dilator protocols, pregnancy and fertility, general pelvic floor dysfunction, and education and safety with binding or tucking.

  • Yes!

  • There is a cancellation fee of $100 if given less than 24 hour notice. A no-show will result in the full price of the visit.

  • Out of pocket permits quality care to be provided above anything else. It allows us the freedom to treat you in the way you deserve, in ways that are not always possible with insurance. It allows session times to be flexible and tailored to your needs, to include value-based treatment modalities, and keeps your private information on such intimate care to not be seen by anyone else. It reduces barriers to care, decreases wait times, and you never need to fill out an assessment for something that may not even apply to your concerns. Being out of pocket allows me to provide comprehensive private care in the way that best suits you. You are not a number in the system to me. You are a priority and this allows me to treat you with high quality attentive care.

  • Being out of network, we have the freedom to meet for the amount of time that best suits your needs. If you think you may need extended time, let me know and discuss options!
